Press, Quotes and German Love

A few weeks ago a Paul Gillin asked me to comment on B2B marketing and pinterest. Yesterday I was poking around online and finally found the article on Crain’s! Below is an excerpt from Crain’s B2B Online Marketing Magazine in the Social Media section:

Pinterest, not just a pretty face, flexes its b2b muscle

Also, Pinterest links boost search engine visibility; unlike Twitter, Pinterest permits search engines to follow links on its site.

For b2b companies that sell beautiful things, Pinterest is a natural. Grand Image is a Seattle-based specialty retailer of fine art for decorators and interior designers. Although it’s only been on Pinterest a few weeks, the service is already paying dividends.

“Thus far we have seen great “virality’ with pins from magazine articles of projects where our artwork is featured, TV shows with our artwork on set and general installation shots of our art in hotels, hospitals, restaurants and the like,” said Lauren Albrecht, who leads digital media marketing at the company. “It’s a great platform for interior designers and corporate art consultants to find our business.”

Does that mean Pinterest is a great platform for your b2b company? It’s too soon to tell, but the site’s growth trajectory indicates that it’s on to something. An hour spent learning Pinterest is time well-invested. And the service is so addictive that you may find an hour isn’t nearly enough.

For more ideas, see ”5 Ways B2B Brands Can Use Pinterest,” from the new Crain’s Social Media Group.  Paul Gillin is an Internet marketing consultant and the author of three books about social media. He also writes the “New Channels” column in BtoB.

Travel Guide & History Lessons For Art Nerds

Posted on by zaza

Plan your next excursions through the NYC art scene with this bible for the professed art nerd. If you’ve wanted to take a cool insider-art and architecture tour through NYC, whether you are a native or tourist, then this site will quench your nerdy thirst for historical art sites. Brooklyn-based Lori Zimmer is not only the founder of Art Nerd New York, but also the biggest nerd of all. Over the years, Lori jotted down interesting sites she came across in her notebook and managed to gather amazing info in more than 21 neighborhoods. Did you know a piece of the Berlin Wall was bought and installed by a real estate company in Midtown in 1990? Or ever wonder why the bathroom in the Olympic diner was so fancy? …well, it’s a replica created by the danish collective Superflex of the one in the executive offices at JP Morgan Chase’s headquarters and a commentary on our global financial crisis. For many more fun and interesting facts and to plan your next tour, visit Art Nerd New York.

ArtsTech & Marketing Space: Who to follow

Social media, mobile technology and online marketing in the ARTS swirls with new businesses, consulting firms and public/private initiatives at a rapid pace these days. Here’s my short list of groups, firms, projects and programs to follow in the #artsmarketing and #artstech space now:

Rhizome – NYC-based nonprofit arts resource connected to the New Museum that offers #artstech events & programs. Similar to ART HACK DAY the upcoming Seven Conference: Presented by HTC on 4/14 will pair seven leading artists with seven influential technologists in teams of two, and challenge them to develop something new—be it an application, social media, artwork, product, or whatever they imagine—over the course of a single day!

Meridan app & MTA Art Collection – An app that provides comprehensive details about ALL the artwork installed throughout the NYC subway and rail system. This weekend I walked through the Elizabeth Murray at the 23rd St/Ely Ave stop in LIC—a stop I used to commute through everyday when I lived there.  Finally there’s an app that brings all that amazing MTA art collection information together on my iPhone.

GoogleArtProject – The Art Project is a collaboration between Google and 150 art institutions around the globe! Combining Google technologies and museums interpretive information to create possibly THE most comprehensive online art experience EVER.

GroupsofMinds -  I like the research that come out of this CA-based, nonprofit-arts-marketing consulting firm run by Ron Evans. His Social Media Audit is the first online marketing diagnostic system designed specifically for the arts —an assessment tool that provides the insights needed to keep social media marketing on track.

INFOGRAPHIC: Art Nerd New York Facebook Performance

So last night was all about the Grand Image and Twitter stats but today I thought I should demonstrate how well one of my freelance projects Art Nerd New York [ANNY] is doing on facebook. My friend Lori Zimmer started writing ANNY in late 2009 as tumblr blog and last fall 2011 I offer to do the WordPress website design/development and social media implementation. The beta site was up in early December and we rolled out the full site in early February. What I find amazing is ANNY had under 200 follower at the beginning of February 2012 and has since then taken off, way to ‘nerd-it-up’ Facebook friends :D

I heart INFOGRAPHICS

Monday, I was thrilled to receive the “Your Visually Create Invite” in my inbox as I have been wanting to do some cool social media infographics for my blog. Spearheading and developing the social media marketing strategy at Grand Image has been an uphill battle at times over the past 6 months.  I think these inforgraphics do a great job telling a story about a company that lacked a substantive social media presence to one that’s on its way to engaging more than its competitors. For this post I am going to mix and match visuals from topsy labs & visual.ly.

My day job is Social Media Marketing for Grand Image. To give some context, when I started on Sept. 28th 2011: @GrandImage had 46 twitter followers and approx. 35-45 tweets; On Jan 13th 2011: @GrandImage had 106 followers and 178 tweets; today we have 170 followers and 400 tweets. To my knowledge, Grand Image’s top five competitors are Editions Limited and Studio EL, New Era Portfolio, Farmboy Fine Arts, and Gango Editions (if I left anyone out please drop a comment). Fortunately these 5 businesses all have twitter accounts [for a while] so there will be a marked difference in total followers – check out this visual.ly twitter showdown of Grand Image vs. Editions Limited.

Now check out this topsy labs graph of Grand Image vs. Farmboy Fine Arts vs. New Era Portfolio. These competitors have upwards of 650 to 1,000 followers on twitter.

My analysis shows Grand Image’s engagement is generally higher than the competition [yay] Now for fun here’s a showdown of myself @LaurenAlbrecht vs. @GrandImage

I’m even more engaging [who knew?] especially on Tuesdays. Anyways, I hope you find these infographics interesting and thought-provoking. How does your company stack up against the competition on twitter?
